Remembering Joe Delaney

This is a must read, especially for our younger readers. Does anyone remember Joe Delaney? You should. He was a nice young running back for the Chiefs back in the early 1980′s. But, one day three boys were swimming in a large hole filled with water when they realized that there was a huge drop off farther out into the hole. They started drowning.

There were people gathered around the hole and one boy asked Joe, “can you swim?”

“I can’t swim good,” Joe said, “but I’ve got to save those kids. If I don’t come up, get somebody.”

Well, the truth is Joe couldn’t swim very well. At all.

One boy was able to swim his way out, but the other two didn’t and neither did Joe. He was 24 years old and gave his life trying to save three kids, knowing full well that he couldn’t swim.
