No Halladay for Yankees
NY Post writer Joel Sherman says via his Twitter account (anyone else notice that a lot of stories are getting broken that way lately?) that there is no way that the Yankees will go after Roy Halladay. The reason? He says it’s the same problem with getting Santana two years ago, it’s just a combination of too much compensation (the Mets robbed the Twins in that area) and loot. And when we say loot, we mean….money.
Sherman says on Twitter:
#Yankee officials tell me zero chance on Halladay for same reason no Santana 2 yrs back: Combo of too many prospects/dollars

While the Yankees have decent starting pitching, they are hardly set. Pettitte is old. Wang is hurt and stinks when he does play (although he was ok recently before his current trip to the DL). We don’t know what to think of Joba. Phil Hughes is in the bullpen and should probably stay there for now. But you still have Sabathia and the wild card that is every start by AJ Burnett. And overall, they are in better shape than most clubs.
But….
The Yankees are different than most teams. They need to win. Like….now. The lineup is there, would Halladay be the final piece of the puzzle? I know I’d take Halladay, CC and Burnett as my 1,2,3 starters any day. Throw whoever the hell you want at 4 and 5.
