The Polish Hammer Marcin Gortat was getting ready to compete with Eric Dampier for the starting center position for the Dallas Mavericks. This was before the Orlando Magic matched the Mavericks’ offer of $34 million over five years. Now Gortat has to compete with Dwight Howard for the starting center position for the Orlando Magic.

Gortat’s agent, Guy Zucker, said the center “was definitely very disappointed today.” Zucker continued, “It was definitely about the opportunity to find out how good he can really be. We had requested that Orlando not match the offer. We stated the fact that he sincerely wanted the chance to carve his own path, be his own man, so to speak, which is not going to be realistically possible in Orlando.”
If Gortat averages the same amount of time played as he did last year, he will make around $7,343 per minute. However, if he beats out Dwight Howard as the starter, that number will considerably go down.
