Garza admits hitting Teixeira

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Garza admits that he popped Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira on purpose the other night. He explained that he’s tired of opposing pitchers going after Evan Longoria and he nailed Teixeira after one of Joba Chamberlain’s pitches sailed over Longoria’s head the previous inning.

“They can take whatever they want from it from it, but I just kind of got tired of people brushing him back. It’s about time someone made a statement,” Garza said, noting that Longoria got hit in the series’ opening game.

“I hate to be that guy, but someone had to take a stand and say we’re tired of it,” he added. “You can go after our best guy. Well, we’ll make some noise, too, and that’s what happened.”

This will probably get him a small suspension. MLB frowns upon admitted acts of douchebaggery. But it’s funny because, like fighting in hockey, it’s part of the game and won’t go away.
