Crabtree could re-enter the draft?

A league source tells PFT that San Francisco 49ers’ WR Michael Crabtree could sit out the entire 2009 season and re-enter the 2010 draft. Supposedly, agent Eugene Parker hasn’t even made a formal offer to the Niners so it’s tough to tell what he even wants.

Now, his cousin is even getting involved, telling people that he’ll sit out the whole year because the Niners’ offer is “unacceptable.”

“We are prepared to do it,” David Wells, a cousin to Crabtree, told ESPN. “Michael just wants fair market value.”

Fair market value? He hasn’t played a damn down!

“Michael is one of the best players in the draft,” Wells continued, “and he just wants to be paid like one of the best players.”

But he’s not one of the best players. He’s the #10 pick. You’ll get nothing and like it!

It’s widely believed that he is looking to blow up the slotting system for signing draft picks, that much is obvious. But to sit out the entire year (making no money) and roll the dice that you’ll be taken higher than #10 overall after you haven’t played football in a year? Really? That’s how it’s going to go down? Really?

This guy just has trouble written all over him. First, there were the rumors that his pre-draft visit with the Browns didn’t go well and that he came off as a “diva.” Then there was the story from Mike Singletary that Crabtree started to cry a little bit after he yelled at him for practicing without medical clearance. And now he isn’t even close to signing and there is talk that he could sit out the whole year?

Who would want this guy? If I’m the Niners, maybe I want this dude to just re-enter the draft.

Sure, he still has every chance to have a productive NFL career and/or even become a superstar. But if we had to script a successful NFL career, this isn’t how we’d start it.
