Reyes has scar tissue in knee

The Mets won 9-0 tonight over a very good St. Louis Cardinals team, but even when they win, they lose. After left-hander Jonathan Niese went down for the season, the Mets also lost Gary Sheffield Wednesday night to a cramp in his hamstring. And then, they got really good news about Jose Reyes: there is scar tissue behind his right knee. The Mets released a statement on his condition.

“The MRI exam showed significant scar tissue and inflammation behind the right knee, related to the hamstring tendon injury, which has caused continued pain,” the statement read.

Last week, GM Omar Minaya said, “Reyes may have two good days and one bad day. … The fact that he’s out there running a little bit is encouraging, but we’ve been in this cycle for a while. The fact that he’s telling you, ‘Look, I’m looking forward to going out there tomorrow, that’s encouraging.’”

Reyes hasn’t been ruled out for the season but unless something changes dramatically for the Mets in the next two weeks….what’s the point? As they would say in Queens, “Yah ten games back, ya know? I mean…whattya playin’ fah?”
