Flacco flopping?
The early reports out of Baltimore Ravens training camp aren’t all that encouraging for second-year QB Joe Flacco. While he received high praise during his rookie year, Flacco was mostly a game manager who wasn’t asked to do too much. Now it sounds like he might not be able to become the prolific passer that many thought he’d become.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Flacco is throwing too many interceptions and isn’t doing a very good job reading defenses. This is a problem. And the guy known as Joe Cool last year is starting to show a temper.
Should the Ravens be concerned?
“I’d be concerned if he weren’t throwing some interceptions, because now’s the time to test your limits,” offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. “The only way your quarterback can grow is to try to squeeze some balls in at this time of year to find the limits, find the limits of the receiver, find the limits of the defender, find the limits of your protection.
“Then, as the season approaches, and obviously it starts to change. Now, if he’s doing it every snap, which he’s not doing that, [I'd be concerned]. But that’s the only way I know.”
And it’s not like Flacco has much help. Derrick Mason dislocated a finger the other day. Mark Clayton will miss two preseason games with a hamstring injury, and Demetrius Williams nursing a bad hammy as well.
This is something to keep an eye on though. There could be problems if Flacco is asked to chuck the ball around.
