Jason Schmidt’s career over?

At the very least, Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitcher Jason Schmidt has just seen his season come to a close. The Dodgers placed him on the 60-day Mark Prior List which will shut him down for the year. The move was made to make room for Vicente “I throw fastballs 95% of the time” Padilla.

But how much longer can Schmidt realistically play? He’s won one more game (3) than he’s had shoulder surgeries (2) in his time in Los Angeles. Based on the $47 million contract the Dodgers gave him three years ago, that’s….$15.67 million per win. WOW.

“When he left [Aug. 7], I told him he may win a game for us in September, and he sort of nodded,” manager Joe Torre said. “He was probably surprised when he came back. He had a couple wins, but it’s been a frustrating time for him. Even though he was a shell of what he once was, you could still see the competitiveness, even if he was searching for how to get it done.”

Schmidt has been a phenomenal pitcher in the past, but it might be time to call it quits.
