Leslie Oudin and Brian de Villiers
US tennis sensation Melanie Oudin’s mother has a steamy secret. Well it isn’t really a secret anymore. The hot “news” today is that Melanie’s father filed for divorce back in June. The kicker? Melanie’s mother Leslie Oudin was allegedly practicing her stroke (OTR suspects forehand play more than overhead volleys) with Melanie’s coach – Brian de Villiers. 
In a sworn statement made on Aug. 10, 2009, the father alleges that his wife was unfaithful with Melanie’s coach, Brian de Villiers. “I didn’t initially take any action regarding my early suspicions because I didn’t want to believe my wife was having an affair with my daughter’s tennis coach. On December 29, 2007, I confronted my wife about whether she was having an affair with Brian de Villiers. I confronted Brian de Villiers separately. My wife and Brian de Villiers both admitted to me they were having an affair.”
SI has the complete story here. Is this really news? Why do we care that a 17-year-old’s parents are going through a divorce?
That being said, OTR would like to congratulate Melanie on an amazing run through the US Open. She simply didn’t have it yesterday. Way too many unforced errors. She will be back, and will hopefully become the face of US Women’s Tennis. OTR is completely and thoroughly bored with Serena Williams.

I appreciate the comments of “Why do we care that a 17-year-old’s parents are going through a divorce”. This is about a girl who worked hard all her life in order to get where she is today.
Why overshadow the American success story of Melanie Oudin with the crap that happens everywhere on a daily business?
Leslie Oudin is my sister and Melanie is my niece.

This is not news. This is a disgusting example of poor journalism. Melanie Oudin is an amazing talent and a MINOR, she deserves better treatment from the press. If she continues to wow the tennis world and leads a scandalous life as an adult, then sure – print that story. Letting he world know that her mother is a skank and her coach is a jerk is not news – it’s just more of a burden for this CHILD to bear.

Does OTR count as professional journalism? I just thought I came here to laugh my ass off. And I’m guessing if you found that news here, it’s been elsewhere.
I feel bad that Melanie has to endure this, but I don’t think a satirical blog is to blame. OTR didn’t stick it where it didn’t belong.

I have a 19 year old son, and I too, have been through a divorce. But my son came first, not me, and my own selfish life. Melanie deserves better from both her mother and her coach, it this is true. I hope when Melanie is mature enough to emotionally face up to this, she looks else for support that 2 selfish people who put themselves before her…

I wouldn’t trust the mother and the coach as far as I could throw them. Scumbags through and through. Everybody at the ITF Junior and Pro Circuit tournaments knew they were having an affair. And check Mr. Devilliers past and you’ll find there are more skeletons involving at least one EVEN MORE INAPPROPRIATE sexual relationship. Make you wonder who will be giving Melanie the kind of support and sound advice she will need from this point forward. Very sad for her.

Clearly you have nothing better to do with your time other than fishing for controversy when someone has succeeded. You will always find that as soon as someone excels there HAS to be a negative. I find your “journalism” pathetic. Focus on the athletes and their abilities instead of their coaches/parents personal life that in effect has fuck all to do with you. Keith – what crawled up your butt and made you high and mighty? Millie, did your mother not teach you to keep your mouth shut if you don’t have anything good to say? Brian has been coaching Melanie since the age of 9 and she is doing well. If you want a soap opera watch your local soapies.

I would like to point out that in order for someone to have an “affair” they have to be stealable. My question is the following to John – what was lacking in your marriage that your wife was so unhappy?
I would also like to point out to everyone who has commented, it takes two to tango, in this case 3. I think it is a cheap shot to take to air your dirty laundry when John, you should be thrilled your daughter has excelled.

my company’s US affiliate has done some background checks on coach de Villiers. We believe that the authorities should investigate him as a sexual predator. There were some inappropiate sexual relationships far worse that Leslie Oudin, he may even end in jail
In all this mess I am sorry for Mrs. Oudin because (1) she is lossing her husband and marriage for a scumbag. Our checks show John Oudin to be near spotless. (2) for the rest of her life she will be subject to scorn, contempt and riicule from the American public, especially mothers and decent wives and (3) in the eyes of John Oudin she will always be a slut,and even her children when they are emotionally mature enough to fully understand what happened.

I am not going to lie, you have lost me here. I know that you meant well and you certainly know what youre referring to, but I cannot say that I get where youre coming from. In the event you want men and women to fully grasp your ideas, you ought to think about the other side of the argument, as well. Youve got a lot of knowledge, Ill give you that. It is a shame that people that don’t even know this family could be so harsh and judgemental. Leslie and John are good people and awesome parents. I haven’t seen either of them in quite a few years but all I can say is many marriages sadly fall apart.
Yes I am so sad that this has all happened to the both of them and especially Melanie, Katherine and Christina. I’m sure that Leslie will carry this burden for the rest of her life as will John.
May GOD heal their family.
May the Oudin girls get past this and continue to achieve great things in life, mostly happiness.
