Prank goes south in Cleveland
Here at OTR, we like jokes. We get them and we enjoy them. We aren’t quite sure if Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Coye Francies would want to work in our newsroom. Because jokes apparently set this guy off.
Francies entered the Browns locker room Friday dripping wet and carrying a bucket of ice. He was the apparent victim of a rookie prank. He chucked the bucket at a couple of his fellow defensive backs and then took a swing at safety Abe Elam.
He threw some of the ice at Brandon McDonald, some at Mike Adams and then headed for Elam to throw a punch. Elam grabbed his arm and then several others jumped in and broke it up. The best part is that this was during a time when the locker room was open to the media. So Mangini won’t have to look too far to figure out how this incident slipped out and made it to the public.
But Francies said afterward it was all a joke.
“We were just playing around, having some fun and games, know what I’m saying?,” said Francies. “That’s pretty much it. It was all fun and games.”
Uh huh. Easy to say after you relaxed a bit. Throwing the ice? Fun and games. Throwing a punch? Not fun and games.
McDonald actually grabbed a broom and dustpan and started cleaning up around his locker, declining help from a team aide.
“We were just having a little fun with some of the young guys,” said McDonald. “It was all in good fun, but he got a little aggressive. (Rogers) made sure it didn’t get out of hand. We took care of it and we’re moving on.”
The Browns really do suck. They can’t even execute a prank properly, let alone a 15-yard pass.
