Crabtree agrees to terms

It’s finally over. The stalemate between Michael Crabtree and the San Francisco 49ers has ended. The Niners and Crabtree have agreed to a six-year deal that voids to a five-year agreement if Crabtree has two or three stellar years.

According to PFT, Crabtree could have had this deal in July. Essentially, agent Eugene Parker decided to ignore the 49ers and hope that they would blow up the slotting system and pay Crabtree Darrius Heyward-Bay money. DHB was taken 7th overall and the Niners had no interest in doing that.

Our take? Expect to see contract numbers that are inflated with some unrealistic escalators. This way, Parker can claim that his client’s holdout paid off and he did the right thing the whole time. In reality, the contract will be almost identical to what Crabtree could have had the whole time.

The holdout was a colossal waste of everyone’s time and we still don’t know how much it will hold Crabtree back in his career.
