Rex Ryan adds traffic lights to the Jets playbook

MarkSanchezStopGo 225x300 Rex Ryan adds traffic lights to the Jets playbookNew York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is now providing help via traffic lights for rookie QB Mark Sanchez. Rich Cimini of the NY Daily News says that each time Ryan sends in a pass play to Sanchez, he will preface it with either red, yellow or green.

If it’s red, Sanchez needs to be very cautious. If it’s green? You guessed it, he can be aggressive. And if it’s yellow, it’s somewhere in between. Ryan wouldn’t get into the specifics, but that sounds like a lot of gray to us (it’s funny because gray is a color).

It doesn’t sound like Ryan has too much confidence in Sanchez’ decision making.

“This is the time that usually the rookies hit that wall, but he’s doing just the opposite,” said Ryan, adding that he’s obviously joking. “He’s breaking through that wall … I think he’s going to have a great game,” he continued with a slight snicker that turned into a full-on belly laugh.

We like Sanchez, but we think a big part of the problem is that Ryan has asked him to do too much. Sanchez had some early success this season and we think that Ryan confused him with Joe Montana and then just piled the load on his shoulders. Why not rely on Thomas Jones more? He’s a hell of a back and it would take some of the pressure off of Sanchez.
