Larry Brown speaks on Iverson’s return
Former 76ers head coach Larry Brown was asked recently about Allen Iverson’s return to Philadelphia.
“I’m thrilled,” said Brown, before rolling his eyes and making a jerking motion with his right hand. “I think it’s a great thing …
“You know, he still can play, and he’s in an environment where they love him,” he said before the Bobcats became the first team to fall to an awful New Jersey Nets squad. “I don’t think there’s any athlete in Philly more loved than him.”

He’s right about that last part. People in Philly love them some Allen Iverson. And truthfully, they are part of the problem that was the Iverson monster. He could do no wrong. You threw your wife out of the house naked (allegedly)? Don’t worry, we’ll make excuses and turn our heads. Just keep driving the line and making our jaws drop with those amazing shots.
There were never consequences for Allen when it came to the fans. They’d still buy his jerseys (speaking of which, they’ll probably be selling a few of those this holiday season), refuse to boo and show up to games with that sleeve thing on their arms. And all the while, Brown is begging and pleading to get him to play “the right way.” The monster grew and grew until Brown decided that he just couldn’t deal with having to have a different set of rules for Iverson and the rest of the team. So, he left and left Philadelphia with a basketball team full of misfits that only he was capable of coaching.
That brings us to now….the team being so bad that they’ve resorted to bringing Iverson back.
“They were afraid to play him against us,” joked Brown, whose Bobcats ironically play the Sixers tonight. “Nah, I bet [Monday's game is] close to a sellout. I bet it might even be a sellout. I think it will be a neat thing, a neat story, hopefully like Brett Favre.”
We’ll see what happens when Iverson returns to the court on Monday night.

Hiya, I was reading one more point about this on one more blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it’s diametrically contradicted from what I read earlier. I’m nonetheless pondering on the opposite items of view, but I’m leaning to a good extent toward yours.
