Marquis to the Nationals?
At the recent Winter Meetings, it surfaced that the Washington Nationals had interest in Colorado pitcher Jason Marquis. Now, it seem that the interest is mutual.
“I want to play for a team that is headed in the right direction and making the moves that is necessary to get themselves back to being a winning organization,” Marquis said, most likely not referring to the Nationals.
“Some of the moves the Nationals have made — like [signing Stephen Strasburg] signing Pudge [Ivan Rodriguez] and getting [Brian Bruney] — they are making the necessary steps,” he continued, most likely in a completely tongue-in-cheek fashion, adding that dry humor is something he can bring to a team. “I feel I can fit right in and bring a winning attitude to the team. Every where I’ve been, I’ve won. I feel it’s not a coincidence. I want to help a team get over the hump.”
Marquis was 15-13 last year with a 4.04 ERA. You’d think there would be more interest in his services. Hell, don’t the Angels need him right now?
