Texas Tech trainer says he was instructed to “lock” James in
Texas Tech has released a signed and sworn affidavit from a trainer that says he was instructed by head coach Mike Leach to “lock” Adam James in a closet after he was diagnosed with a concussion.
The university said, “After coach Leach’s conflicting recent media accounts of the treatment of James, the university asked witnesses to sign affidavits attesting to their original statements.”
Dr. Michael Phy, a treating physician, said that he didn’t agree with Leach’s decision.
Phy said that James “may not have been harmed,” but he “considered this practice inappropriate, and a deviation from the medical standard of care.”
In the affidavit, trainer Steve Pincock (that can’t be real, can it? C’mon, that’s not his real name. They are changing his name to protect the innocent) said following James’ concussion diagnosis, he showed up at practice in “street clothes, his cap on backwards, and sunglasses and began walking around the field in a very nonchalant way.”
Pincock said that Leach didn’t like James’ attitude and didn’t want other players to see it.
“Leach told me to place James in a dark place near the practice field,” Pincock said in the affidavit.
Leach was fired on Wednesday.
So what have we learned? Well, Pincock is a great name.
