Julius Peppers could be worth $20.1 million
The Carolina Panthers aren’t planning a playoff run this year, so they now have to start thinking about whether or not to franchise All-Pro defensive end Julius Peppers for the third straight year.
The 29-year old pass rusher had 10.5 sacks this past season which was good for tenth in the NFL. Peppers has spent his entire eight-year career with the Carolina Panthers.
Peppers’ franchised-salary last year was $16.68 million and if franchised again the Panthers will have to give him a 20% pay increase which will bump his salary up to $20.1 million for 2010. That is a pretty hefty number to pay one player, not named Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.
If the Carolina Panthers decide not to franchise Peppers, Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Trent Cole would love a teammate on the other side of his line to help him get to Tony Romo and Eli Manning.
They have until February 25th to use the tag.

yes they will either 1) franchise peppers or 2) sign him to a long term deal worth $100 mil plus….No big secret. peppers and carey now want the panthers to lay there offer out there…the old offer of $85 for 9 years with a $10 mil signing bonus and $45 mil guaranteed….
