St. Louis Cardinals fans applaud steroid use

In his first public appearance in St. Louis since admitting he cheated during his major league baseball career, Mark McGwire was given a standing ovation from Cardinals fans on Sunday.

His scheduled news conference, however, was shifted to an overcrowded hallway at the last minute, possibly the same hallway that McGwire stuck a needle in his ass so he could hit more homeruns than Sammy Sosa.  McGwire evaded questions about the criticism he’s received from ex-players. The former home run king emphasized repeatedly he was ready to move on.

In a brief appearance, he warned kids not to try steroids and said he was happy about his chance to put on a major league uniform again.  The uniform will now easily slip over his head and body, because of the lack of steroids running through his shrinking body.

During McGwire’s introduction, he walked on stage to “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses, the same song played before his at-bats with the Cardinals.  Jack Nitzsche’s and Sonny Bono’s “Needles and Pins” was ready to go if the first choice started skipping.

It’s crazy how stupid people are but when it comes to sports it never shocks me, just look at all the idiots that ran out and bought Vick jerseys when he signed with the Eagles.

They were not applauding steroid use. They were applauding in support of member of their franchise that made a mistake and had the balls to admit it. Even though everyone already has assumed he did steroids. When he was a player, they were not against the rules and there was nothing in place to prevent him from doing them. I am not saying what he did was right but he did do what was right in the end. Think about the worst thing you have ever done and not told anyone then take that thing and tell the whole world about it and think how you would want people to treat you?

He had the balls to tell the truth… when there was a job opportunity in the works that benefited him. But not when he was asked point blank at a congressional hearing. If he was allowed to take steroids and HGH when he was a player, why lie for years and compound the problem? It’s not that I think he’s an awful person, just one that made a mistake. And doesn’t deserve a pat on the back and a round of applause for doing what he should have done all along only when he would profit from it.
