Frank Thomas retires
41-year old Frank Thomas has announced (ok, maybe he didn’t really announce it yet) his retirement from baseball. “The Big Hurt” hangs them up with 521 home runs and a career .301 batting average along with a .419 OBP. He came into the league in 1990 and was with the White Sox for most of the time. He made a couple brief appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland A’s and was last seen in 2008.
Thomas won back-to-back MVP’s in 1993 and 1994 and you can certainly make his case for the Hall of Fame. But he may have spent too much time as a DH for that to happen.

Certainly make the case?? He’s a HOF without question. Only question is first-ballot or not . He was arguably the best all-around hitter in the 90s. No steroid cloud over him either.

I don’t think 500 HR’s is the guarantee it used to be. I think/know he gets in, but people are bitching about the DH stuff.

Let them bitch. He played enough 1B where it isn’t an issue. The 500 homers are only part of the reason. .300 career batting average, pure consistency over 18 years, and the back to back MVPs (along with a bunch of additional top-10 finishes) that you noted are the other reasons. He was the best player in the American League for a real long time. I also can’t name a better player in the history of the Chicago White Sox, can you? The more I look at it, the more I think he will walk in as a first-ballot HOF. Speaking of first-ballot…how stupid is that. You are either a HOF or you’re not. I hate when people say…”oh he should make it but not until the second ballot.” Why? You are either in or out. Stupid.

Discovered your blog and decided to use a fast read, not what a typically do but good 1. Wonderful to see a web site for the change that isn’t full of spam and rubbish, and really makes some sense. Anyway, nice write up.

I must say, as much as I appreciated reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose attention after a while. Its as if you had an excellent grasp on the matter, but you didn’t remember to include your readers. Maybe you should think of this from more than one position. Or probably you should not generalise so much. It’s better if you consider what other people might have to express instead of just going for a gut reaction on the issue. Consider modifying your own notion procedure and giving other people who may read this the benefit of the doubt.

Can I make a suggestion? I consider youve obtained some thing excellent here. But what in case you added a couple links to a page that backs up what youre declaring? Or maybe you could give us anything to search at, some thing that would connect what youre declaring to one thing tangible? Just a suggestion.

This is getting a little more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is decorative, has far more sparkle, and some awesome features such as ‘Mixview’ which let you rapidly see associated albums, songs, or other users related to what you might be playing. Clicking on 1 of them will center on that item, and one more set of “friends” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by related artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” can also be good fun, letting you discover other people with shared preferences and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist developed depending on an combinations of what all your buddies are listening to, which can be enjoyable. People concerned with privacy will be relieved to find out it is possible to stop the public from seeing your individual listening habits should you so choose.
