Bengals plan to let Shayne Graham walk
WKRC in Cincinnati (c’mon, how cool would it have been if it was WKRP?) has learned that the Cincinnati Bengals plan to let kicker Shayne Graham leave via free agency. His contract runs out in the next month.
Wow. Yes, he had a bad year, but have they taken a gander at what’s available? You can’t be serious. We understand Graham wasn’t great this year and he blew two important field goals under 40 yards against the New York Jets in the playoffs. Nate Kaeding was even worse and he isn’t going anywhere.
Look at some of the kickers that were playing last year. Shaun Suisham pretty much stinks. The Redskins cut him and the Cowboys kicking situation was so bad with Nick Folk (previously thought to be a good kicker), that they signed Suisham. The New Orleans Saints were very fortunate that Garrett Hartley had a great day in the Super Bowl. There was a good chance that he might not.
We understand that it’s easy to remember the last game and how bad he was, but relax a bit. This is a guy who was franchised last year. We aren’t saying he’s one of the elite kickers in the game, but careful what you wish for, you may end up with something like Dave Rayner.
Oh, in other news, WKRC says that Rayner will be signed by the Bengals in the next day or so.
