New Jersey Net’s number one target is Coach Krzyzewski
New Jersey Net’s president Rod Thorn is in the final year of his contract and is hoping to sign a new contract with owner-in-waiting Mikhail Prokhorov early next week to stay with the Nets.
Thorn has been with the Nets since June 2, 2000 and was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2002 after the Nets advanced to the NBA Finals.
If Thorn is awarded a new contract, The Record is reporting the Net’s number one target will be Coach K. Coach K has not been contacted about the possibility and won’t be until Thorn knows his fate with the team.

Even if Thorn doesn’t resign with the Nets, Coach K will still be targeted. The Nets’ organization views Krzyzewski as someone who gives them instant credibility and can help in the recruiting of potential free agents LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer when they hit the open market this summer. They’re all members of the U.S. National team and like Krzyzewski.
The Nets are not only considering Coach K for the head coaching job, but also for the general manager position.
If Coach K does join the NBA, someone in the organization will have to point out there is a half moon underneath the basket that eliminates charging calls. Furthermore, flopping doesn’t exist in the NBA either, unless your name is Anderson Varejao.
