Nationals agree to terms with Wang
According to William Ladson (who?) on Twitter, the Washington Nationals (that’s a baseball team) have agreed to terms with former New York Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang.
“The #Nats have agreed to terms with right-hander Chien-Ming Wang. The #Nats have not confirmed the agreement,” he tweets with appropriate use of hashtags.
We like this signing for the Natties. They aren’t very good and don’t have $150 million to throw around. Wang won’t be too expensive because he was absolute garbage as of late, but he has a very high upside and the Nats can use all the upside they can get.
We don’t love the W/L stat for pitchers because it can be extremely misleading, but in 2006 and 2007 he had 19 wins in each year. When you start sniffing 20 wins for a season, you had a great year even if you did play for the Yankees. If Wang can regain anywhere near that form, it will be a huge boost for the Nationals. If not, then who cares, it’s the Nationals.
