Manuel wants Reyes to hit third?
Adam Rubin on Twitter says that New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel would like to use SS Jose Reyes in the third spot in their batting order.
“Jerry on Reyes: “I would love to see him as a No. 3 hitter assuming the other parts fit.”,” he tweets.
He must be talking about a move that would be temporary until Carlos Beltran is back. Reyes is a phenomenal leadoff man (when healthy) with speed that can put serious pressure on a defense when he gets on. Last season, he was .279/.355/.395 with two home runs, 15 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 36 games.
We think you’d need a little more power out of your #3 slot, but it could just be the reality the Mets are facing. Angel Pagan could possibly leadoff, but we don’t love the idea. We thought the Mets would be heading in the right direction, but it’s very possible they are headed for another bad season. We don’t want to make too much of this, but we just don’t see Reyes as an effective hitter in the third spot.

I should say, as much as I appreciated reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had an excellent grasp on the issue, but you didn’t remember to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from more than 1 position. Or maybe you shouldn’t generalise so much. It’s better if you consider what other people may have to say as opposed to just going for the gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your own thought process and giving others who may go through this the benefit of the doubt.
