Timberwolves suspend Jefferson for DUI
The Minnesota Timberwolves have suspended forward/center Al Jefferson for two games following his early Sunday morning arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
“We are disappointed that Al used poor judgment last night. Thankfully, nobody was injured,” David Kahn, the team’s president for basketball operations, said in a statement. “We believe it is appropriate for Al to be suspended for the next two games without pay.”
Not a big deal, right? Well, it will cost him about $293,000. Wow. You can whine and complain that this isn’t significant money to guys that get paid this much, but that’s wrong. $293k is not something that anyone wants to fork over. He thought the attorney’s fees would be a lot to fight this? That’s chump change.
Jefferson was cited doing 56 mph in a 40 mph zone. Not the worst. The police also said that his tires were drifting over into the fog line and he then changed lanes without signaling. The field sobriety test led to his arrest and he was given a blood test with the results yet to be returned.
