Chargers tender Sproles at the highest level
Apparently, the San Diego Chargers have changed their minds about letting RB Darren Sproles walk in free agency. The team has tendered him at the first- and third-round levels, meaning he’ll be getting $7.27 million if he stays with the team. That also means that anyone who wants to sign him now, will have to give the Chargers a first-round pick and a third-round pick.
That ain’t happening. Thinking he was getting ready for free agency, Sproles was supposedly prepared to meet with the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins. We can’t imagine any of those visits taking place now.
Throughout all of this, Sproles has maintained that he wants to stay in San Diego (who wouldn’t?).
“First, it’s San Diego,” he said. “Then it’s my teammates. The people in the locker room, that’s who I’m comfortable with. They know what I like to do; I know what they like to do.”
Looks like he isn’t going anywhere in 2010.
