Peppers to finalize contract with Bears today?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are expected to complete a deal with free agent DE Julius Peppers “later this afternoon.” Peppers visited with the Bears first, but was expected to receive offers from the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots if a deal couldn’t be reached in Chicago.
The Bears seem to have a couple people in CYA mode. Head coach Lovie Smith and GM Jerry Angelo have an uncapped year to play with and have to be on thin ice as the team has consistently underperformed since Rex Grossman took them to the Super Bowl in 2006.
We have a feeling that this won’t be the only move the Bears make, but it will certainly be the biggest. Apparently, playing OLB in the 3-4 defense wasn’t all that important to Peppers.
