Raiders cut Walker, Ellis
The Oakland Raiders have admitted to a couple of mistakes…sort of. According to Adam Schefter the Raiders have let go of Javon Walker and Greg Ellis.
“Filed to ESPN: Raiders waived WT Javon Walker and DE Greg Ellis. Talk about two moves that didn’t work out,” he tweets.
Boy is that the truth. Walker was deemed one the top 10 free agent busts of all time (since 1994 essentially) by NFL Network and he certainly earned that title. We don’t blame Walker, we blame Al Davis. As for Ellis, we don’t think that move was remotely as bad as the Walker signing. Ellis at least had seven sacks last year.
The uncapped year has been a god send to owners for a couple reasons. One, with no capped year, there is no floor, so owners don’t have a minimum in which they have to spend.
And secondly, with no cap, there are no cap consequences. This is the perfect time for teams to get out of bad contracts made in the last few years. Cut whoever you like, nothing is accelerated into a cap hit because there is no cap. See: Jake Delhomme.
PERRY UPDATE: In 2008, Walker inked a strong, six-year, $55 million contract with $16 million guaranteed. Oakland ended up paying him around $21 million for two years of service. During that time, Walker played in 11 games, catching 15 balls for 196 yards and one touchdown. That’s $1.9 million per game, $1.4 million per catch, and $21 million per touchdown.
Thanks for write-up, it looks like you got it all figure out, no? Raiders cut Walker, Ellis | Off the Record (OTR) was a wonderful read.

When I not too long ago found your website and started reading along, I was thinking I’d leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say other than I appreciated reading through. Nice blog. I most certainly will continue reading this website more frequently.
