Redskins sign Larry Johnson
The Washington Redskins almost did it. They almost went through an entire offseason without signing some big name who can’t really play anymore. But, according to Adam Schefter, they signed free agent Larry Johnson to a three-year contract today, so they’ve kept their streak alive.
“Filed to ESPN: There’s a new running back in Washington. Redskins reached agreement with RB Larry Johnson on a three-year deal,” Schefter tweets.
Johnson averaged 3.2 yards per carry last year and he has a lot of wear and tear on him from his days with the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s 31-years old and just doesn’t hit the holes the way he did when he was younger, had Tony Richardson at FB, and a bunch of all-stars on the o-line.
There is a chance that Johnson could be better in Mike Shanahan’s zone-blocking scheme, but we’ll believe it when we see it. Johnson joins Clinton Portis in a backfield of former studs. Someone tell Dan Snyder that this would have been great if it was 2004.
