Redskins offered the Eagles Haynesworth?
Adam Caplan of Scout.com was just quoted on television as saying that the Washington Redskins offered up DT Albert Haynesworth in the trade talks for QB Donovan McNabb. Caplan was told about this from two different league sources, and they said that the Eagles just said “no.”
Hmmmmm….this might say a lot about what the Redskins think about Haynesworth? It also might say a lot about what the rest of the NFL thinks of him and his giant contract.
Haynesworth is a dominant 4-3 defensive tackle (when he wants to be), but the Redskins are moving to a 3-4 scheme. Supposedly, Haynesworth is not happy with the change. He doesn’t want to be a nose tackle and he doesn’t want to be an end in the 3-4. The Redskins are reportedly planning on moving him around a lot in a hybrid 3-4/4-3 scheme as they transition, but it would seem that they are still willing to get rid of him.
Does he cost too much? A poor fit in the 3-4? Are they tired of his bitching already?
It’s probably a combination of all of it. But if this report is true, the Eagles clearly don’t want to pay a bunch of money for a play-when-I-want guy. It would make sense since they could have offered him the same contract in last year’s free agency. They didn’t for a reason.
