Rogers ordered to repay Lions $6.1 million
Finally, the Detroit Lions get a win. Not on a football field, but in a court of law. A judge has ruled that former WR Charles Rogers must repay $6.1 million of his $9.1 million signing bonus because of his 2005 suspension for substance abuse.
Rogers was the second-overall pick in 2003 and never did squat at the pro level. The Lions took him to court after he ignored a 2008 arbitrator’s ruling that he owed them that money. Rogers thought that he should just owe them for the four weeks that he missed, but everyone else on the planet disagrees.
Rogers was cut following the 2005 season and has been in and out of jail since then. We are going to take a stab in the dark and guess that the Lions shouldn’t hold their breath on that $6.1 million.
