Ronnie Brown still on the block
After a very interesting and revealing report from Yahoo! Sports’ Charles Robinson the other day that said that a “Pro Bowl running back” is on the block, Adam Schefter followed that up with a poignant tweet about the availability of Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown.
“With trade speculation focusing on Marshawn Lynch, don’t forget the Dolphins have been open to dealing RB Ronnie Brown for well over a year,” Schefter tweets.
Robinson said he couldn’t name the running back or the team that was involved in attempting to acquire him, but that it wouldn’t be shocking. Gasp! Thanks for that!
So is Ronnie Brown the RB that Robinson was mentioning? It’s possible, but Brown is kind of sort of in the last year of his rookie deal and coming off of an injury. He also got himself in some hot water with a little incident with the drinky drink and the motor car. We would have to think that he is worth more to the Dolphins than the middle-round pick that they’d get for him. He’s a nice back, but no one would hand over a second rounder for him.
As for Brown’s contract status, it’s confusing. He’s a restricted free agent, yet also in the final year of his rookie deal. Here is how Brown explained it to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald for those of you that care about such things.
“The way it works,” Brown told Salguero, “is if they reach a new agreement, this is my last season under contract and I become a free agent. If they don’t come to an agreement for 2010, I’m under contract to the Dolphins for another year. I have to play another year under the old contract because it becomes a six-year contract.”
But yeah, so anyway. Brown is on the block it seems and could possibly be the guy that Robinson was referring to. Or not.
