Hotel suicide stuns the Angels
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are in New York City this week to battle the big bad New York Yankees. On Tuesday afternoon, the team had to deal with something that most teams aren’t used to. Specifically, a 39-year old man plunged to his death from the 42nd floor of the Le Parker Meridien hotel where the team was staying.
“A tragedy — something you don’t want to see,” said pitcher Matt Palmer. “Anybody would have a lingering [impression]. It’s something you want to put behind you.”
The incident took place around 8:15am, about 45 minutes before the team bus was preparing to leave for Yankee Stadium.
“We were stunned, of course,” Torii Hunter said. “A guy jumped out of a window.”
Torii, was the guy black or just Dominican? Neither?
Hunter made it clear, however, that it “had nothing to do with” a 7-5 loss the Yankees.
“I don’t know a lot about it,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “I just know those guys were shaken up, having witnessed it.”
That is certainly bizarre and we aren’t really sure how we’d react. Just weird.
