Okur ruptures Achilles tendon

Bad news for the Utah Jazz. According to Ross Siler of the Salt Lake Tribune, starting center Mehmet Okur does have a ruptured Achilles tendon that he suffered in a 126-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Okur is most likely out until December and he’s clearly devastated.

“Carlos Boozer said Mehmet Okur had tears in his eyes after last night’s game,” Siler tweets.

Okur was really hoping to play for his native Turkey in this summer’s World Championships, so this injury hurts twice as much.

But for now, the Jazz need to figure out how to stop the Denver Nuggets and that includes figuring out a way to replace Okur.

“Jerry Sloan said he’ll decide about starting Kyrylo Fesenko or Kosta Koufos in Game 2,” Siler tweets again (we think he has a Blackberry!!!).
