Jets release Alan Faneca
According to Manish Mehta of NJ.com, the New York Jets have released all-world (he was at some point anyway) guard Alan Faneca. There had been rumors that he was being shopped, but apparently they don’t care about what they get for him at all. With no salary cap right now, there are no cap consequences.
“BREAKING: I’m reporting that the #Jets cut Alan Faneca. More on nj.com in a bit,” Mehta tweets.
Faneca was due $7.5 million and as we mentioned before, new rookie Vladimir Ducasse is slated to play guard. Faneca has been an outright stud in his career, but he really didn’t play like it last year.
Faneca is only 33-years old and will draw some interest on the free-agent market. Ducasse is now pretty much a lock to start at left guard.
