Fan tasered at Phillies game
Thanks to Mark for tipping us off on this one. A 17-year old fan was tased at Monday night’s Phillies game after he ran out onto the field for a little joy run. Steve Consalvi even called his father right before he took off.
“He said, ‘Dad, can I run on the field? I said, ‘I don’t think you should, son.’ ”
“This would be a once in a lifetime experience!” the son said.
And we guess that it truly was depending on how often you get tased.
“This is the first time that a Taser gun has been used by Philadelphia police to apprehend a field jumper,” Phillies spokeswoman Bonnie Clark said in a statement. “The Police Department is investigating this matter and the Phillies are discussing with them whether in future situations this is an appropriate use of force under these circumstances. That decision will be made public.”
Many people will be speculating about whether this level of force was necessary. We’ll tell you right now, we’ve got no problem with it. Fans have absolutely no business running onto the field. It’s not like this kid was waiting in line for a hot dog. He made the decision to run out onto the field and jeopardize the safety of the players. You don’t want to get tased? Fine. We don’t either.
