Venus Williams French Open outfit is great
We admit we haven’t followed tennis much lately. Sure, there is the girl that needed the breast reduction surgery so that she could play better. Then there is Ashley Harkleroad, who was previously named OTR Athlete of the Week. We love her.
But when we got a look at the outfit that Venus Williams has been wearing at the French Open this year, we took notice. This sure as hell wouldn’t fly at Wimbledon, but who cares?
Female athletes seem to be getting better and better looking. And as such, we think they should be allowed (not required, allowed. We aren’t sexist here) to wear as little as they like. And if Venus wants to spearhead that movement, by all means go ahead.
Go for gold, Venus! Is that what you win? No? A trophy? Something like that?
One question that comes to mind is: Does this sexually exploit women? I for one would absolutely say that yes it does. If all this comes down to is that we disagree on this, that would be one thing.
But like it or not, there's much more going on here, and that is the proven fact that because of this type of behavior, women are being put in more danger than ever before. Too many men see a scantily clothed young lady and cannot contol themselves. That puts all women in greater danger, therefore it's wrong.

What kind a role model is she presenting for other young female athletes.
There is far, far more to being a champion than simply winning.

I am a woman and do not take offense to this outfit. If the shorts under her skirt were white or a different color, would it matter then? NO….PEOPLE SHE HAS ON CLOTHES she just chose to wear something that was skin tone…VENUS, DO WHAT YOU DO BEST…GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

I meant to give a thumbs down to David's comment. That is the same reasoning that muslims give to making women wear burqa's. "To protect them"…give me a break…if a women wants to wear provocative outfits lets them! That's like blaming a women because she was raped. Take all the blame away from men and blame it on women. "I had to rape her because she was half naked!" Please.

To clarify, for Chad and others, most of the blame should be on French Open officials who refuse to ban her outfit. Like it or not, this type of behavior leads to rape and other ways of mistreating women. If anything, I'm trying to protect women from the men who feed on this type of thing and don't know how to behave themselves.
Years ago we got rid of Joe Camel because he made smoking seem cool. We went after Joe Camel rather than the smokers. Same logic here: Do we ban the product or do we say, "Wear whatever you want, smoke whatever you want. It doesn't matter!" If we do it for smoking, why not for things that sexually exploit women.

David, I would agree with you that the blame is on the French Open officials. They really should have not allowed her to wear that outfit. Children also watch tennis. But you also have to remember that the tournament is in a country were they have ads on bus stops with bare chested women. Europe is a little less stuffy than here in the US. That being said, the responsibility is on the women who wear skimpy clothing. It is their responsibility to know that when they wear revealing clothing they may get stares and off color remarks. Men who rape don't rape because a women is wearing a short skirt…rape is about power. You are basically saying that if a women wears skimpy clothing and is raped it's her fault. Wrong. The man who raped her is wrong.
