Maine done with the Mets?
New York Mets starting pitcher John Maine showed real promise a few years ago. No, he wasn’t a dominant starter who would throw nine shutout inning on a regular basis, but he had proved to be a reliable starter and a nice addition to the rotation.
Well, that was a few years ago. Since then, he’s been marginal at best and now you can add injury woes to that.
According to ESPNNewYork.com, the Mets could opt to just shut down Maine for the season after he experienced discomfort in his shoulder again in a Friday night rehab start. He was placed on the DL on May 21st.
Minaya was asked if Maine would get another rehab start.
“Most likely not,” Minaya said. “First, let’s evaluate him, and go from there.”
So what is the problem with Maine?
“He said he just didn’t feel the way he wants to feel — the throwing area,” Minaya said of Maine’s shoulder.
Maine may very well have thrown his last pitch for the Mets. It is very likely that he will be nontendered after this season.
