Gonchar signs three-year deal with Senators
This was certainly unexpected. Most people figured that defenseman Sergei Gonchar would be headed to Washington or Pittsburgh. But nope, Gonchar has actually signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Ottawa Senators.
The 36-year old Russian was the best offensive defenseman on the market, and now he’ll help out Ottawa on the blue line and with their power play. He’ll get $5.5 million per year to do so, and this incluedes a no-trade clause.
Gonchar had 11 goals and 39 assists last year with the Penguins. Rotoworld.com thinks he can score 15-20 this season while quarterbacking the Sens power plays.
