Shaq could sign with Hawks?
Lost in all of this talk about LeBron James signing this place or that place and will he sign with Cleveland and blah blah woof woof, is the fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers will most certainly be losing Shaquille O’Neal. Sure, he’s not in his prime anymore, but he is still a ginormous body down low.
Now, NBA sources are telling AOL Fanhouse that O’Neal is considering joining the Atlanta Hawks. It’s not that the Hawks are willing to break the bank on him (who would?), but supposedly Shaq is mulling a two-year deal at the mid-level exception. That would pay him about $5.8 million. Otherwise known to Shaq as peanuts.
“I think he wants to see how everything shakes out with all the free agents, but he’s seriously considering Atlanta’s offer,” said the source. “He wants to play two more years, and he wants it to be with a contender. He thinks he can help them become a serious one.”
He would primarily be responsible for handling the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard, who is quite a handful down low. Shaq only averaged 12 points a game last year in 53 games, so he wouldn’t be asked to be the super stud that he was 10 years ago.
