Lee to Yankees deal “just about done”
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, a trade that would send lefthander Cliff Lee to the New York Yankees is “just about done.” In return, the Yankees are expected to send catching prospect Jesus Montero.
“Executive involved in Cliff Lee talks: The Yankees-Mariners deal “is just about done,” he tweets.
Montero was recently ranked as the No. 4-overall prospect in baseball by some people who actually think that stuff matters. The Mariners would love to get the 20-year old in exchange for Lee because they know they have no chance of re-signing the veteran pitcher.
So, the Mariners would essentially get a potential stud catcher in return for a big heap of crap pitcher (Phillippe Aumont) and a pair of nobodies (Tyson Gillies and someone else that we forget because he’s so bad). They also got to rent Cliff Lee for half a season.
Way to go, Phillies!
What remains to be seen in all of this is if the Yankees will have enough money to give him a long-term deal. Things are tight in NYC right now.
