Gagne traded to Tampa Bay
The Philadelphia Flyers have continued their busy offseason today. Over the salary cap and in need of a salary dump, they have traded Simon Gagne to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Matt Walker and a fourth-round pick.
This gives the Lightning quite an attack with Gagne, Vincent Lacavalier, Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos. And with Gagne’s contract expiring after the 2010-11 season, it’s not a huge deal if he stinks up the joint or gets hit with his usual injury bug.
As for the Flyers, this is a move to get under the salary cap. No way is Matt Walker and a BS fourth rounder worth what Gagne brings to the table.
And if you are scoring at home, this means that David Akers is now the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia.
