Ellsbury to the DL…again
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. The Boston Red Sox have placed center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury on the disabled list for the third time this season with some form of the same problem. It’s his ribs…again.
Ellsbury collided with Texas Rangers pitcher Tommy Hunter on Friday night and was sent back to Boston for tests on his ribs.
“The results showed some edema to the soft tissue in the same area, suggesting new trauma from the fall,’’ manager Terry Francona said. “There’s a faint line at the fracture site. It’s just impossible to tell — new [or] incomplete healing.
“So you have to go on the symptoms, and Jake says it’s worse than Tampa. So we knew it was a DL. Now that he’s a DL, we’ll dig and try to find out, OK, what do we do?’’
This is quite a frustrating season for the Red Sox as far as injuries go.
