Mangold and Jets agree on seven-year deal
While guarantees have still not been finalized and that essentially means that the deal isn’t done, but someone with knowledge of the situation tells the Newark
Star-Ledger that the New York Jets and center Nick Mangold have agreed to a seven-year, $55 million contract.
One would have to think that Mangold will get more than the $20 million guaranteed to Jason Brown last year by the St. Louis Rams.
Head coach Rex Ryan was again publicly hyping his players, which Mike Tannenbaum must love.
“You lock up the best center in football,” Ryan said. “That would be a huge thing for our franchise.”
Now, the Jets can turn their full attention to Darrelle Revis. That is, if they aren’t so turned off by his reported contract demands that they are willing to sit and do nothing. The better that Antonio Cromartie and rookie Kyle Wilson look, the longer the Jets probably feel like they can sit on their hands.
