Santana undergoing surgery, season is over
Just in case New York Mets fans thought for a minute that they had any remote hopes of even getting into a playoff race, that chance is now gone. Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com tweets that Johan Santana will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a tear in his anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder.
“An MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan revealed Santana has suffered a tear of the anterior capsule of the left shoulder,” Rubin tweets.
Yikes! As it is, Santana never regained the form that made the Mets want to acquire him several years ago. Injuries could be taking their toll and he have to wonder what kind of pitcher he’ll be when he returns next year.
Poor Mets. They just can’t seem to get it together. They have a team with good players, but they either get hurt (Santana, Beltran) or woefully underperform (Jason Bay). There must be a huge dark cloud that just hangs over Citi Field all summer.
