OTR Preview: Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears
It’s that time of year again. It’s football season! And OTR is here to highlight and preview as many NFL games as we physically can based on the man hours we have available. That might been that we look at every game! Or it might mean that we look at one! Or none! I’m not sure!
Today, we are going to break down the Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears game. This game can only be described with one word: “The Battle for the Lead in the NFC Central.” Just about every national media outlet has dubbed this game, “The Game We Are Watching Most.”

With the Minnesota Vikings losing to the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night, the division is wide open. So let’s look at the game:
What the Detroit Lions need to do:
It is imperative that the Lions get an early lead and then keep it until the game is over. If they fall behind, they would then be in danger of losing, and that’s something that irritates Jim Schwartz. The Lions will definitely need to use Calvin Johnson in a way that helps them win. Jahvid Best will be expected to contribute as well. But, if the offensive line can’t protect Matt Stafford, his chances of being sacked will be increased.
What the Chicago Bears need to do:
Jay Cutler has to prove to Mike Martz that he’s a right-handed QB, or Martz could start tinkering with his left-handed mechanics during the season. Don’t expect this to happen on Sunday, though. Johnny Knox is a fast wide receiver and his speed could have a huge impact on this game. But it might not. We won’t know until the game starts. Don’t forget that the Bears defense is hungry and wants to win. That can’t be underestimated.
OTR’s Pick:
Lions 31
Bears 18
