Oden to play 60-65 games this season?

While Greg Oden certainly has the potential to become a good player in the NBA, so far, he can’t kick the injury bug. This time, he’s trying to recover from a fractured patella (knee cap) and it pains us to even write that.

According to the Portland Trailblazers director of college scouting, Chad Buchanon, don’t expect too much of Oden early this year.

“People want Greg to be ready at the start of the season,” Buchanon told 95.5 FM’s “Wheels at Work.” “Looking long term, we need everyone healthy, clicking together, come March, April and into May. If we can get Greg to play 60-65 games this year and continue the development curve he was on before he got injured last year, I think we’ll have a chance to have some success in the playoffs, this season.”

This is Oden’s fourth year after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2007 (ahead of Kevin Durant, but that shouldn’t matter, should it?). He needs to start showing something now or references to Sam Bowie will start popping up….if they haven’t already.
