Webb hits 84 mph in Instructional League game

BrandonWebb 300x240 Webb hits 84 mph in Instructional League gameRemember Brandon Webb? The guy that everyone used to feel bad for because he was so good and on such mediocre Arizona Diamondback teams? Yeah, he hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since the first week of 2009.

But, he’s working towards getting back. And, according to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, he recently hit 84 mph in an Instructional League game.

“FA-to-be Brandon Webb velocity up to 81-84 mph in 2nd Instructional League start. Sounds like progress,” Price tweets.

Webb is still battling back after shoulder surgery in August of last year. He was excited about the chance to get some game work in, even though it wasn’t likely that he was going to get any time in the bigs this year.

“I’m excited to go down there and get into game situations,” Webb told MLB.com. “Obviously, I wanted to pitch in the big leagues, but this is the second-best thing.”

The 31-year old is a free agent this offseason and could be a huge boom for a team that can get him at a reasonable price. If he’s able to get his stuff back, he can still be a nasty pitcher.

Supposedly, the Washington Nationals are scouting him, which would make sense. They’d love to get a talented player cheap.
