Morgan out for the year

There were numerous defensive ends in this year’s NFL Draft who had a lot of immediate potential. Brandon Graham and Jason Pierre-Paul are two of them. But many thought that Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan was the best of the group.

The Tennessee Titans had high hopes for Morgan when they took him No. 16-overall, but their optimism is going to have to wait another year.

The Titans announced on their Twitter page that Morgan will miss the rest of this season with a torn ACL (that will usually do it).

“Fisher also announced rookie DE Derrick Morgan will be placed on injured reserve with a knee injury (ACL) #Titans,” they tweeted with appropriate use of hashtags.

This is a pretty big blow to a Titans team that isn’t very deep at his position (they spent a first-round pick on defensive end for a reason). They’ll have to rely on Jason Babin (who has been very good so far this year, but you have to wonder if he’ll wear down) and David Ball unless they can find someone on the street who can help.
