Coffee busted on gun charges
This kind of stuff irritates us and we were just thinking about this the other day. First the news part; we’ll get to our rant in a minute. Former San Francisco 49ers RB Glen Coffee was busted earlier today for possession of a concealed firearm in Florida. The gun was reportedly “cocked.”
Coffee was pulled over for speeding, when cops found that his vehicle had no registration or insurance. The vehicle had to be towed, but not before an inspection by police. The “cocked” gun was in the center console where Coffee could easily access it.
Remember Coffee? Third-round pick in 2009 who abruptly retired from football because “I’ve told Christ it’s time to go.” So he was done football because it was time to do god’s work. Where does the firearm fit into that whole picture?
I admit I haven’t been to church in….well…ever. But I can’t imagine that “Shoot Thy Neighbor” is part of some commandments or Bible verses or something. What I don’t get is why people in society are quick to praise someone for going into the church business when it really has nothing to do with how good of a person they are. So you retired from football to do what you consider god’s work or whatever….bravo. Who cares? If you are running around with pistols, it means nothing to me.
That leads me to my next point (which is a little off topic, but I’m going to keep it going). This isn’t completely related, but it was something that I noticed this week while going through Twellow looking for Twitter users for a client. Do you notice that Christians love to point out that they are Christians? Do you notice that other religions don’t do this?
So, someone’s Twitter profile would say “Tech lover, sports enthusiast, investing hound, parent, Christian, husband.” Why did you throw that in there? Would you ever see a Jewish person’s profile say, “Part-time Dad, full-time accountant, book lover, Jew, weekend drag racer”?
No, you wouldn’t. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? This isn’t an indictment against Christians, just something I’ve noticed. I just don’t see people of other religions that are so quick to point out their religion. Is it because these certain people who like to wear it like a badge tend to believe that it makes them better than others? In some instances, I think that’s the case, but certainly not all.
I’m not a religious person, but I think playing with guns and breaking the laws of the United States is something god would frown upon. Work on that, Glen.

Not that I completely disagree…but you kind of shoot yourself in the foot (no pun intended) when you say God would frown upon a guy who carries guns and breaks the laws of the United States. Depending on what your beliefs are, God doesn't care about whose states they are and what "man" created to rules to live by in those states. Let us not forget that every law in this country is a man made law to service and contain the population. When they sentence you to life in prison for murder, it isn't becase you've sinned… it's because you threatened the lives of others and are a detriment to society.
Anyway, not a bad thought and rant…but the last part thew me.

Agreed. Laws are related to country, not to religion or God. That said, the potential for violence was there. Not like he got arrested for smoking weed.
