Thornton signs three-year extension with Sharks
Apparently content with coming up short in the playoffs year after year, the San Jose Sharks have inked Joe Thornton to a three-year contract extension. According to TSN, the deal is worth $21 million.
”Joe stepped up and made a tremendous commitment to this franchise, his teammates and the fans in San Jose,” general manager Doug Wilson said in a press release. ”We are very pleased that we now have another key piece of this team’s core under contract for the next four seasons.”
Thornton, who was recently named the team’s captain, was expected to become a free agent on July 1st (of next year).
”Joe is among the top players in the game, and along with several other core members of our team, we feel he is just entering the prime of his career,” Wilson said with a straight face.
We aren’t sure exactly how many players enter their prime at the age of 31, but don’t tell Wilson that.
