Flyers extend Giroux

ClaudeGiroux 300x199 Flyers extend GirouxThe Philadelphia Flyers took a big step towards securing their future today when they signed Claude Giroux to a three-year, $11.25 million contract extension. Giroux was in the last year of his entry-level contract.

Under the terms of the extension, Girous will earn $2.75 million in the first year, $3.5 million in the second and $5 million in the third. If you don’t have a calculator handy, that’s an average of $3.75 million per year.

That’s not bad considering that Giroux is only 22-years old and clearly the team’s most creative player. And he’s off to a hot start this season with seven goals and seven assists through 15 games. Smart move by GM Paul Holmgren.
